No matter where you go or what you’re doing, it’s the topic on everyone’s mind: the economy. With the nation facing tough economic times, American’s continue to show their ingenuity. Folks have become more creative, using their resources to create “stay-cations” closer to home and finding ways to continue to improve their lot in life.<br /> <br /> One fabulous way to “stay-cation” this fall is to plan a day to ride the CAT bus. The Clemson Area Transit (CAT) system is one of the largest free fare systems in the United States and can transport folks from Seneca to Clemson to Anderson and places in between. Many riders are often visiting some of the local cultural, historical or retail destinations. So why not pack a picnic and plan a day to visit some of the area’s hot spots? CAT also offers a bike and ride system, so fit in exercise too. Read more about CAT and community destinations in this issue.<br /> <br /> Despite the never-ending media onslaught regarding real estate and housing starts, local homeowners and builders have found a new way to adapt and invest. Area suppliers and builders report a growing surge in the request for remodeling and renovation projects. While folks may not be able to afford the luxury second homes that were being built just a few years ago, they are adjusting their expectations, reassessing and often finding that remodeling and updating is a great way to stay put and improve. Many in the region have located to the area because of the climate and beautiful scenery and have carefully selected their lots. Some homes on Lake Keowee are now approaching 40 years but still have very desirable locations. Several articles in this issue give insight into the current market and ideas if you are considering remodeling your home.<br /> <br /> As Fall moves in, it is a great time for sight seeing! Football season and Clemson University ushers in many visitors to the region who often take time to enjoy the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and the lakes.
