Tax notices are only mailed to the property owners that are on fi le; if you have an escrow account with your mortgage company, you should provide them with the amount due to ensure timely payment. If you do not receive a tax notice from the City, it is essential that you contact Property Tax Offi cer Jean Fulcher @ 770-476-3434 x1223 or by email taxes@ duluthga.net. Please note that Gwinnett County bills separately from the City of Duluth.<br /> <br /> Options to pay:<br /> <br /> Mail or pay in person at Duluth City Hall, 3167 Main Street, Duluth GA 30096. Hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. A night deposit box is also located on the Main Street side of City Hall at 3167 Main Street for your convenience.<br /> <br /> Homestead Exemptions:<br /> <br /> To apply for homestead exemption for the 2011 tax year, property owners must submit their applications to Gwinnett County by March 1, 2011. To qualify , homeowners will need to own and occupy the property as of January 1, 2011. Additionally, all vehicles must be registered in Gwinnett County. If the property owner is approved for any exemptions, those records are automatically forwarded to the City and therefore you do not have to fi le separately to receive the City exemptions.<br /> <br /> New Garbage Bags and Sizes<br /> <br /> The City of Duluth is proud to introduce a thicker bag (2.5 mil) and a new size (42 Gal - Blue) to go along with the current 13 Gal (Green) and 32 Gal (Purple) bags. The cost of the 15 gal bag is $21 for 15 bags, the 32 gal bag is $32 for 20 bags, and the 42 gal bag is $25 for 12 bags. Due to the increased thickness of the bags, new packaging was required. In an effort to produce a more environmental friendly package, it was decided to use a plastic recyclable sleeve to hold the garbage bags instead of the Cardboard Boxes.<br /> <br /> Summer HEAT:<br /> <br /> Law enforcement begins 100-day safety crackdown<br /> <br /> Summer is on its way and the travel season will soon be kicking off. Local law enforcement is launching traffic initiatives this summer aimed at keeping motorists in Duluth safe.<br /> <br /> Georgia’s 100 Days of Summer Heat will stretch from May 17th through September 6th. Click it or Ticket will last May 24 through June 6. Georgia law enforcement officers have zero tolerance for excessive speeding, impaired or aggressive driving and occupant protection violations. During the summer, motorists can expect random, daytime and nighttime seatbelt and sobriety checkpoints.<br /> <br /> To report a driver who appears to be intoxicated or who is driving recklessly, call Duluth P.D. (within city limits) 770-476-4151, outside the city call 911 or *GSP<br /> <br /> Recent and Upcoming Law Changes<br /> <br /> Georgia’s “Super Speeder” law went into effect Jan. 1- Anyone caught traveling 85 mph or over on the interstate will pay an additional $200 fi ne on top of their citation. On county roads, anyone traveling 75 mph or more will also have the additional fi ne. Also, speeding in construction zones doubles fi nes.<br /> <br /> Effective July 1st, 2010- The seatbelt law changed regarding Pick-up trucks. Current law requires each occupant of the front seat of a car, van, or SUV to be restrained by a seatbelt. This legislation redefi nes the term “passenger vehicle,” requiring all passengers in the front seat of a pickup truck to be restrained by a seatbelt. The bill exempts off-road and pick-up trucks involved in agricultural operations.<br /> <br /> Texting Law –“No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any public road or highway of this state while using a wireless telecommunications device to write, send, or read any text based communication, including but not limited to a text message, instant message, electronic mail, or Internet data.” In addition, the new law also prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from using a wireless communication device.<br /> <br /> “No person who has an instruction permit or a Class D license and is under 18 years of age shall operate a motor vehicle on any public road or highway of this state while engaging in a wireless communication using a wireless telecommunications device.” To read the complete bill please go to Senate Bill 360 (www.legis.state. ga.us/legis/2009_10/fulltext/sb360.htm).<br /> <br />
